This is poor - throwing off one foot and losing all his speed from the transition to the throw. Hopefully he'll see this and compare it with what he does in training!!!!! s162.photobucket.com/albums/t242/Bevjavboy/?action=view¤t=stAb3.flvSounds harsh but what I would rather point out to him is what he can do when he is positive - and what happens when turns hi right foot forward and keeps his point control to a manageable state - preventing him from dropping his arm so. Admittedly in training, it comes after abot 20 throws, so he will have to do 18 throws in his warm up in future - if he can ge to the track in time to do them! He cracks me up - MAD MATTI!!!!!! You shold have heard someof his scary school stories - I just hope he was exaggerating! A former porn actress as a teacher - who teaches dance (Polish by chance!). Have they got any jobs there!?

just out of interest dan pembroke's 59 at the weekend was with the 800, a steel champion - apparently he doesn't like it because it wobbles a lot - wasn't a problem for backley though and now he wants carbon........ seeing as he has thrown 71 with the 700 that's worth about 65 with the 800 from my years of seeing good u/17's chucking 8's........if he throws something aorund that, that would put him second behind dave parker in the all time lists of u/17's using the 800.........make of that what you will.

Was it a national junior league then? OK - I didn't realize. The champion is a fine jav! I swear by them and TBH is what Backely and Hill threw and preferred throuhgout their careers. However, if he want OTE's or Nemeths or even polanik - that's his choice!
Suprised he 'only' threw 59m though, but it is early and he is only a young 'un!

PS What do you think of Mad Matti Phil now you have seen him in a better video format. He still turns his foot back to 2 o'clock and drops his hand so he rather contorts himself when he throws. He'll hurt himself if he is not careful. The one where he throws in his shorts was the 57m, the other one was 52m or 49m. He warms into his throwing so I think he'll have ot do a few more warm ups than none in future!

MAtti with his new slinger jav! Didn't throw too well last night. Felt tired and heavy and in his words needs to lay of the pies! I thought he was talking to me! He's fine - but was collapsing and reversing his knee althouhg a couple at the end were better I'll try and post them. Ok fouling the line but still around 60m but not one of his better sessions. He has two meets this weekend with his new jav so hopefully he will have a new pB as it has been on the cards for a while now! s162.photobucket.com/albums/t242/Bevjavboy/?action=view¤t=MVI_0074.flvIt is easy to be over critical as you forget he is only 14 now and his first real season. He is thinking about it now and realizes what he needs to do and that it isn't that easy! However, I want him to develop a good workable technique now so he doesn't get into bad habits that may prove impossible to kick!

Just looked at the vid and the opeing frame is actually quite a good position in terms of run off, jav postion and just the athleticism of the lad in this still. This is him in the transition to his cross overs. I should also be noted that he does this naturally. All I have done is change a few shapes. Incidentally, he did some run up practice and then went to pieces, invoking a bit of Bevan tough love - which to be fair to the boy he takes and accepts. He is a special kid in many ways I tell you!
When he thought about his transition - he couldn't do it - so I jsut told him to get on with what felt natural which is what he always did. Probably a good example of not overcoaching someone and trying to teach something that they do naturally and then confusing them. I am a great believer in coaching out faults and not messing with what works! Matti is refocussed and I am sure he'll get it right - whih is more than I can say for my other fella Paul who we haven't seen for weeks! This other U17 has joined in, she threw 33m against Sadie at St Albans and threw 38/39 in training with us so she may go to the English schools as well if she repeats that over the next weeks or so. She is a multi eventer where javelin will be her best event - now theres a turn up for the books! Hopefully that'll make 4/5 at ESAA who I assist although one I barely see so cannot really take too much credit for!
BTW the power of 10 rankings are rubbish - Paul Smith doesn't appear but does on the AW ones as well as a few others have noticed from our club. I don't think some of our league matches have been sent in or recorded or someone has sent a selection or resutls and not included some of our events. e.g. Young athletes matches for us only have a few results published as most of the performances aren't good enough to make AW.
