This was me throwing my PB last year in BAL4 the phrase 'do as i say not as i do' springs to mind throwing.mypicgallery.com/Take a good look as its the last time you'll see me throwing like that.......i hope! Any comments

Look at the straight leg in this one! Not sure if its the camera angle but it looks like the spear is going to go 100m up in the air!

how did you get the photo into the message? Anyway ye, the straight leg is probably the reason why it went along way, but if you look at my arm you can see i'm not exactly hitting through the point although i seem to remember it didn't go too high really. Now that i look at it myself it is funny, i appear to be using my arm and legs effectively but somehow skipping the body movement alltogether! Did anyone notice how good i am at keeping the point by my eye- lol Does anyone els feel like ripping this to pieces- dont be shy i can take it

doesn't appear to be too bad............of course we don't know what was before or after the pic so pics like that can be misleading!!!! but the other pic shows a collapse after delivery so just stay tall and carry on the momentum by driving high straight over the left......

you've used your body fine..........all jav throwers impart some force that's not directly down the line of the jav........some pull down, some push up - you pull down hence the concave bend [it is concave isn't it???] and as i'm aware this means you impart a positive angle of attack, so try a champion, nemeths are best suited to negative angle of attack throwers like makarov, zelezny is similar to you and he used a ote taiwind.......................i'm sure Beepee can help you more on this. .........keep doing what you are doing and make it more more consistant.........easy!!! then a big jump will come.......

cheers for the positive input Phil. You are right i did use my body ok, but i know i never manage to achieve that bowed effect it all happens instead ahead of my block- hence the big pull down (just look at the bend in the jav- thats Jims Nemeth 95m!)
I'm getting some coaching now and hes trying to get me to stay up more and not do the whole forward lunge thing too early. I hope we see the results this season.....
I just bought an Airglider (steel) that ought to be ok. I'll treat myself to an OTE Tailwind if i get to 70m this year, i haven't hit the big one yet but i'm patient.

incidentally when tested apparently the airglider goes furtherest out of all of the nordic steel javs - maybe the shaft is stiffer then the champion and orbit??? the only person i know throw a really long way with one was nieland on his big 83m throw at the AAA's in '96 - he then snapped it training in SA - oh man he was GUTTED!!!! it was SOOOO funny, it was like the he'd lost a dog or something!!!!
wez with living in finland can you get nordics cheaper??? probably not but worth a shot?

I know that Andreas like to throw the Airglider, but usually the Carbon fibre version. I have one of the carbons and I don't really get along with it. I have spoken to the people at Nordic on numerous occasions in the past and the airglider does go furthest out of the cannon they fire them from, but for this reason it is harder to throw a long way due to the fact that the tendency to cause rotation about the long axis of the spear is lower.
Basically it is a low moment spear. It responds pretty well in a cross wind from experience, however I would always opt for a champion or an orbit first ahead of the airglider. I think what attracts people to it in the first place is the fact that it looks like a barber pole as it flies.............and we all know how exciting that can be! Slinger doesn't even get to go in the shop. He gets the benefit of standing outside to look at the barber pole while we all have to head inside to let sweeney do a job on our nut!
I have been advised recently by a pretty successful British Javelin thrower to work out which model of javelin you are going to throw and stick to it. Changing javelins during a competition shows that one is not really sure which they throw best and couldbe construed as a sign of panic. In the big competitions anxiety is something that is there in abundance anyway without having to create more.
Personally I would throw the OTE Tailwind or the Steel Orbit. I have been throwing the nemeth 80 in the last 2 years, but I am slowly going off it at the mo. If I was really on during a competition I would switch up to a carbon orbit. However if things weren't going great I would change to the champion which is probably the most forgiving javelin out there for a thrower over 70m!?!
I would warn anyone about throwing a carbon as if you don't hit it clean, it doesn't vibrate and whereas the steel champion for example will vibrate and be relatively forgiving on your throwing bits, the carbon will simply stay rigid and all the vibrations that the steel would absorb with will be taken out on you throwing bits instead and potentially hurt, particularly if you are generating a hight release velocity (i.e. >23ms-1)
Each to their own I guess.

thats some very astute talk Mr P- you routed me out instantly, all i want to see is that little red and white spiral winging through the air....pretty.........
I'm with you on that one, i'm always faithful to my javelin and won't be swapping around. I used to have a Sandvik master that i took everywhere and i was never unfaithful to her! Until one day i broke her... I know how Neiland felt and Phil its worse than losing a dog!
Sadly boys for some reason the javs are just the same price here as in the Uk
Never fear i will not be venturing anywhere near a carbon javelin, my elbow is stuck together with spit and sawdust as it is!!!
Are you doing the BAL's this year Dave? first one is 6th May and i'll be venturing back for it.
Also as this feed started about my pic do you by any chance remember said throw? it was the 1st round of BAL4 last year- you were making some comment about the state of my runup and rythm.
wow, i just noticed how disjointed this reply was lets see if i can top it next time or then i'll just have to lay off the coffee............. ;D
