Managed to put a couple of stills together, will do more later when I am at home. Two things I notice from the stills in particular are: 1. Your right foot landing is quite heavy and your foot is pointing backwards slightly. You do turn your foot out afterwards but would benefit form landing with your toes pointing forwards at around 2 o'clock. 2. The angle of the javelin is very high and I imagine you have hit under the point and dragged on the javelin slightly, perhaps it would be better to try and keep the point closer to your eye line so you strike through the length of the javelin more. Overall the throw looks good though but hopefully people can add a few more comments and suggestions for improvement. Deeds - perhaps you can add a bit about your throwing here- what weight is the jav you're throwing, what is your PB etc. (I'm sure you've posted that elsewhere, so sorry if you have!)

hey deeds! firstly why is it there's always someone in front of the damn camera!!!!!!! ;D
right then!!!! james is right on all things he mentioned, it's very difficult for me to start because i don't want to fill your head about 1001 things to do, so i'll just say a few things.
checking your profile you are 16 so i guess the jav is a 700g??? it looks like it is to me, even though it's hard to see - i just have a hunch! to get best results out of this javelin is that it must be thrown fairly low and flat, flat mainly as it just floats forever meaning you can get a good return off what looks like a very long stab.......if you throw it and you tail it, it'll just stall big time SO pick you arm up at the moment the tail is far too low and you just drag the whole thing, it'll feel awkward to begin with but persevere and you'll get the rewards.
have a look at the stills that javmat posted of zelezny, hecht and backley and see the position the right foot is when it lands at final right foot contact - there's lands about 2 o' clockish [as james said] yours if you can imagine is almost pointing backwards, this is actually quite dangerous and cause injury! but by getting a better position with the right foot you can use your lower right side better and as a result of this block better too - to achieve this simply perform your X overs with your hips facing at 2 o clock and your feet will automatically be in a better position and give you a chance.
when performing your X overs at the moment you aren't really driving off the ground and propelling yourself forward - work your feet with width and down to the ground and you'll find this'll give you time and you won't rush the throw as much.
SO things to think about are 1. pick your hand up 2. run with your hips at 2 o clock and 3. don't rush your X overs, give them time by working your feet hard to the ground with equal width.
at first it might feel slow and awkward but with time you'll get used to keeping your arm up, you might find the approach slow to begin with but with the hips the way they are at 2 o clock and with the X overs being equal and active you'll soon be able to pick up the pace again and it won't feel rushed.
........i could go into detail about everything on the vid. but it's up to you if you want me to, but i don't want to confuse you too much.........if i did then please realise that rome wasn't built in a day and you can only work on one or two things at once!!!

.........also is that one of those polanik 700g javs? ? they aren't as good as most [they don't float] see if you can find just a cheap apollo aeroflow 700g jav [all plain yellow] they don't make javs anymore [apollo] but there are still loads around, they do float - they cost about £60 new and loads of people have thrown them a long way.

hey there (sorry its taken me so long to see this!!) yes it is, i do throw the 700g javein. had a few issues this year, ( this video is from lastyear) firstly i'd like to say thanks for the comments! i have recently sorted out my foot, and it is now much straighter and at the 2'oclock position..i have noticed a diference as it alows me to follow through on my leg more. i find one of the things that i am doing wrong at the moment is that myleft leg is colapsing when i relese...obviously causing my whole body to collapse and therefore shortning my distance. i have been told about my arm being to low before, and yes, this is one of the things i am looking to improve this season. i have had trouble getting to training recently, just some family problems, but when i do i find that what i tend to focus on most is sorting out a decent run up. i experiment with different lengths of side steps. at the moment i try to do 9 steps before the side step where do about 7...first 4 steady pace and then last three and plant excelerated to get that little extra push! i havent really had much trouble with the javelin. the only criticism i would have about it is that it tends to slag a little...but maybe thats just me! i will post any new vids when i get them this season...many thanks! deeds
