GOOD NEWSMidlands mens league division 4 Telford actually threw the jav quite well considering we had a very stong head wind....was affecting everyones throws My run up if you can call it that only started at the 8m pull through spot i managed 51.25m...this mean i get added to the rankings now ;D??? ;D if it does i knock james chamberlin down a spot....revenge for beating me at last comp with my own javelin 1st throw 48.96m 2nd throw 47.60m 3rd throw no throw due to wind blowing it out the sector....was going straight down the middle and the wind just blew it out the sector (well landed in middle of the line) would have been further than the 51.25m and possibly a new PB 4th throw 49.55m 5th throw 51.25m 6th throw 49.97m was quite disapointed with hammer (25.89m), shot (11.25m) and discus (26.98m) but i guess thats what i get for going out partying all night friday lol got in a 5 this morning sooo alittle tired but anyway i got a BBQ to go to before work at 10pm tonight. BAD NEWSWell i got to work tonight, but got sent home due to my elbow playing up was ok untill i kept catching it on the shelves and doors (i work in tesco filling frozen section so i guess the cold wont help either? Every little helps my arse!)...ended up going to A&E because of the pain making me feel physically sick..got diagnosed with severe case of repetative stress injury in my elbow given morphine for the pain and ibropfofen for the swelling just for tonight, then told to take paracetamol + ibroprofen for pain & swelling if and when needed. If anyones got any training tips to strengthen/ease/prevent further injury could you please post them up? Goodnight all Sam C

Not good news re elbow Sam - am also a sports therapist in my non-javelin throwing life --> this is what you should do for elbow pain. Medial Epicondylitis - otherwise known as javelin thrower's elbow. Acute pain: ice to cool until there is no swelling evident. Active rest (rest elbow but carry on with general fitness work) - until pain subsides 3-4 weeks. Apply local heat post acute stage (i.e. when pain and swelling is reduced) to improve blood supply alternate with ice massage (rub ice cube over area until ice has melted). NSAIDs (nurofen etc), frictions to the area. Strengthen & stretch muscles. Elbow guard or counterforce brace to redistribute load. Hope that helps Jen

Bloody Good News !!!!!! (Northern League divison 4NWC) Hammer - 27.71m (a new club record, season best and only 1m off PB, 2nd place) Discus - Not greater but technically better Shot Putt - Not great distance but good points Javelin - First throw massive seasons best of 31.76m less than a meter of my PB. It got better though with several throws over 30m (not done 30m this year). A 31.78m in the 5th round and a giant (well for me anyhow) 32.58m in the final round which is a proper PB!!! I comfortable won the competition. Dont ask me how I did it but technically it felt quite good. Got the confidence to follow the javelin and found my aggression. Most importantly am just relaxing and enjoying my throwing. Not bad for a day where I'd have been happy with 30m! Perhaps there is life in the old girl yet beepee! Just had to share

Well well peeps looks like there is some mighty pleased folk out there and so there should be, see, sometimes we forget that there is another important angle in javvy throwing and that is the "pleasure angle" whoooah yes the joy of doing a Pb no matter what the distance is and, who gives a toss, if it is not 90mtr, a Pb is a Pb is a Pb. I wish I was there to see JB throw his belt up the air for once and Mother hen, bless her sox, still popping out a personal best at her age?? and for your info "Perhaps there is life in the old girl yet beepee!" Im old, your a whipper snapper, still, and as for Jenny then also a very well done and yes the ankles will get better believe me I know from personal experience. I have also had a great weekend so raise your glasses and "cheers" it makes up for all the crap that we have to endure. well done all..

I dont feel like a whipper snapper anymore especially when I watch a young U17 do one of the best paddys over her throwing. Paddys like that havent been seen on a track since I was a young one. It was always a mystery how I could throw my boots further than my spear! I just find it even more amazing as my spear training has gone out the window for over 2yrs now. Perhaps I can do a patented training program. How to throw further using randon gym sessions, thai kickboxing and a play station 2 dance mat!?! I think a few members of my club are considering the dance mat for those days they cant get down to training. Well its cardiovascular training, balance, co-ordination and rhythm!

Hi motherhen, i currently compete in the northern league division 4N? for Leigh harriers in the senior mens. My PB's which i have achieved this year after 8 years off are: Javelin 52.08 Hammer 27.92 discus 28.22 shot 9.18 I am dissapointed with the standard off competition and turn out of athletes in this league and am looking forward to getting promoted this year. What do you think about the standard of competition and turnout of athletes? I have achieved my best performances at the Trafford Grand Prix open meetings on tuesday nights. Hi there, Ive not made any of the trafford meets this year as been busy with work but I agree there a good place for PB's (I threw my current hammer one there). The lower leagues are a bit depressing at times (I used to throw for Hull and therefore until this year and had UK League competition) but you have to look at a mixture of reasons why. The clubs in lower leagues are either B teams (therefore not the main importance) or there smaller clubs that may struggle to field all the events. Leigh Harriers in my opinion is a growing club especially with the sports village on the horizion but it is hard to fill all the field events when you are based at cinder track without all the facilities! Other clubs have the same problem. The other problem is athletes can go to "high status competion" claims with other clubs which also doesnt help at times. I'm not sure what will happen to league comps in the next couple of year (UKA reforms following the foster report etc) in the mean time just keep plodding on as a club and get out of the division! (Oldham are currently winning 4NW). Oh and if I'm not on holiday see you at the Northern plate final at cudworth. I'll be in the womens throws
