Mon, May 3rd: taken from the javelin forum II:
Today in an exhibition event to promote youth javelin throwing held in DeSoto, KS, Scott Russell broke the WR for the 300g Turbo Jav with a throw of 88.90m! His series included 3 throws over 85m.""
I am surprised that this distance is not further. Also when looking at the world record for throwing a golf ball, the mark is only 120m. I tried this in training the other day and threw approx 100-105m. Has anyone else thrown these objects at all with similar results?
This is one of the main reasons I want to include these events in the end of season competition. It occurs to me that some of the more obscure throwing records can be broken reasonably easily.
A list of others:
Longest throw - no tail
The record for an object without any velocity-aiding feature is 383.13 m (1,257 ft) by Scott Zimmerman, with a flying ring on 8 July 1986 at Fort Funston, California, USA.
Longest throw - tail
The longest independently authenticated throw of any inert object heavier than air is 385.80 m (1265 ft 9 in), in the case of a lead weight with a long string tail attached, which was thrown by David Engvall at El Mirage, California, USA on 17 October 1993.
Longest throw - water balloon
Accepted as a new record category. Awaiting suitable claim.
Longest throw (Cricket ball)
A cricket ball (155g 5.25oz) was reputedly thrown 128.6 m (422 ft) by Robert Percival, a left-hander, on Durham Sands racecourse on Easter Monday, 18 April 1882.
Longest throw of a golf ball
The longest throw is 120.24m by Stefan Uhr (Sweden) at Prästholmen, Mora, Sweden on August 20, 1992.
Longest throw, men (Baseball)
Glen Edward Gorbous (b. Canada, 8 Jul 1930) threw 135.88m 445ft 10in on August 1, 1957.
Beer bottle cap throwing
Paul van der Merwe of Limes Acres, South Africa threw a beer bottle cap a distance of 69.9 m. (229.3 ft) at the Lime Acres Airfield on May 15, 1999.
Card throwing - distance
The record for the longest throw of a single playing card is 65.96 m (216 ft 4 in) and belongs to Rick Smith Jr. (USA). The record was set at the Cleveland State Convocation Center, Ohio, USA on 21 March 2002.
Gumboot throwing - distance, men
Often called `Wellie Wanging' and using a size 8 Challenger Dunlop boot, the distance record is 63.98 m (209 ft 9 in), thrown by Teppo Luoma (Finland) at Hämeenlinna, Finland, on 12 October 1996.
Rolling pin throwing - distance
Lori La Deane Adams (USA) threw a rolling pin (weighing 907 g (2 lb)) 53.47 m (175 ft 5 in) at Iowa State Fair, Iowa, USA, on 21 August 1979.
Hen's egg throwing - distance
Johnny Dell Foley threw a fresh hens egg 98.51 m (323 ft 2 in) to Keith Thomas at Jewett, Texas, USA, without breaking it on 12 November 1978.
Believe it or not, these are all genuine world records, anyone reckon they can beat them?
