Well the senior men's javelin competition at Essex Championships was the biggest sham i have ever been in... the comp went on for 2.5 hours. we kept on being stopped by the starter the officials cocked up the card and the electronic measuring system took twice as long than it would have done if the tape had been used. 2 competitors were allowed 7 throws. one of them, james everard, as he was kept waiting on the runway for over 5mins. Paul Cooper got an extra throw because they forgot to write his distance down. Dave Sketchley got an offical Warning for foul language after he was kept staning/sitting on the runway. i doo believe that he Shouted "F you you bastards" as he threw his first throw I was given a 54m throw for my first throw even though i only threw 46m on my first throw finished 9th over all with a 46.90m throw... well that's 1m better than i did there last year

They also gave James my first round throw & John Harvey a warning. The Field REF was a bastard, everything was fine till he came over, he was lucky to leave with his teeth ;D
It was a very good comp but it be remembered for all the wrong reasons.

This was indeed a sham. From my perspective, I had to wait for more than 5 minutes for each of my first 3 throws (over 10 on the runway for my first), I threw twice in the first round because they weren't ready for the first one (fortunately the first one that didn't count was w@nk anyway) and when I went to leave the competition after 6 rounds, I was down as having thrown 59m despite only throwing 56m. (They changed it eventually).
I couldn't believe that they were actually asking people how far they had thrown. The field referee was a joke and has been for years, he spouts a load of obscure rules for the sake of it and then walks down the middle of the field at oncoming discus before messing up the electronic measuring and giving everyone the wrong results. Joker!
