Hi all...... just finished the inter counties..... full of cold, First of all.... to Sam.. sorry if I was cold today... my whole prep for the comp was put out when I found we needed to be there fully warmed up 45 mins before the comp....comp satrted 12.45... I get there 11.45 get my javs in, get my numbers, (put them on) went to the loo... and then find every one in the comp was on the track warming up. Didn't mean to be cold!! Second..... to anyone who tried to talk to me and I might have seemed off.... sorry, after no prep and those stupid officials coming up with the idea of '' each competitor has two warm up throws and will throw in order'' I didn't know if I was coming or going. Anyway.... apart from that, the comp went well, and I was happy with my throws. Thats it... hope to see some of you at the souths or any other comp I'm at. Keep throwing far!!! ;D

Yeah good comp today, good high standard competition....i didnt feel i was really with it, rushing round for numbers, two warm up throws (with a half an hour wait in between ) an i had a shine problem which didnt help. By my standard my one throw werent that bad....but anyway onward to the next comp!! ;D (Maybe next year they should think about pools and at least give us the final call information

Well that was the best competition i have ever witnessed. I have a few photo's and some video clips that i will endeavour to get on the site at some point. Neil never mind.... i have been there myself and i understand... All in all there were some really great throws out there today...where the 72m throw came from to win the comp i'll never know..must have missed that one Meant to speak to Tom Dobbing too but just forgot... Maybe i'm comming down with something too...let's hope it's a major case of weight loss and injury cures ;D

Yeah - the officials tried to be too official and were collectively rather a pain in the arse. As for the warm up throws, what a farce, besides I didn't pay attention and took as many throws as I felt like.
I even got told off for using the track to keep loose between throws - the official concerned what a knob - we were hemmed into a small area, 20+throwers with kit and javs everywhere - at least the older female official had some sense and allowed us onto the track in the end.
As for the throwing, pretty poor to be honest. Neil had a good series (well done fatboy) considering you were virtually jogging in and Stuart Miller had a good throw (and about time too). The rest, Roberson threw like a donkey and wasn't up for it (once he is though - watch out). Mike Allen did his usual, threw some good uns in warm up, ballsed up the first 4 rounds then hit a 72 and fouled probably a 75 in the final round. Dave Parker was the most encouraging, forget his average distance, he will get over the horror of 2002 and throw a long way this year (I reckon 80 once he gets it right mentally). As for me, almost there but technically bollox and just not finishing off the throw - as they say all good things happen to those who wait.
As for the pre-comp situation - Sketch and Neil - to be honest your poor prepartion and both of you should have known better. Dave you have no excuse you were at the track when I was (1000) and Neil, even worse as you were very lucky to get a throw because you weren't at the final call. Don't mean to be rude but should anyone on this forum get to a major champs the whole call up routine can throw people off. Even at the Commonwealth trials in 2002, from leaving the warm up track to first call, to second call and then the final holding area to the arena it took almost an hour. Then you had 3 warm up throws, in strict order and you weren't allowed to touch a javelin until your name was called. Perhaps a lesson to be learnt in ensuring that you are adequatly prepared.
As for the organisers it would have been nice if they would have told us what was going to happen before hand - ideal time was at final call. But good weather though - just a flat atmosphere.

Yep I was at the track at 10:00 to book my spears in and get my numbers, but I like to spend a hour before comp start time to warm up, I did not know anything about being called 45 mins before the comp start (sprinters only had a 20min call up). so I only had 15 mins warm up.
They did not do this last year
And if you warmed up outside like John Lundman you did not hear them call you at all, I bet the lack of warm up did John's arm injury alot of good.
I'd also like to add this was not a major champs. Even at the AAA's last year we had more warm up throws.
And if anyone does go to a major champs you are told the process in which you have to go through, so you can prepare and be warmed up before you are called.
I'm not making excuses for my performace that day, all considering, I don't think I did that bad, Anything over 60m for me is good throwing.

Ok, I got there only an hour before the comp.... just like every other year...... but I was not warned by my team manager or anyone else.
As Dave said... even in the AAA's over the last couple of years they let you know what is going on before the day, so you know what you are doing.
The only warm up I had was running from inside to the track then the TWO most appreciated throws. They didn't even announce over the loud speaker 1st, 2nd or last call.
Saying that..... I can't complain with a 2nd and 3rd life best distance. With a warm up..... it might have gone further.
But I will be sure to get there early next time.... for Machester.... I might get there the night before!!!! Just to make sure I'm not late. ;D
