How many of us are really aware of the anti-doping procedures?? Did you know that if you use an inhaler with Beta-2 agonists that you have to register this with UKA?? Our club sent out letters informing us that we have to register these - I had no idea. Information & forms are available on the UKA web site: www.ukathletics.net also for IAAF on: www.iaaf.orgunder the heading anti-doping.

Your right log onto the UKA website to get the info. To be honest though you don't need to worry too much about anti-doping until you are lottery funded - however it is always recommended to keep abreast of the rules.

You're making me read more on the subject The cheif coach from our club is very good & I would be suprised if if he was asking us to register if he was not concerned. I have a 17year old daughter & 11 year old son who both compete & use inhalers & although I agree that testing of them is unlikely to happen the rules dictate that they should be registered. The UKA club fact sheet on anti-doping confirms this.

In the case of anything like this it is better to be safe than sorry. I'm most certainly not a lottery funding athlete but I've been to competitions where i could have drug tested eg BUSA and national cross countries.
Its best not to take the chance.

i believe im correct in saying that if you were in this instance to test positive for the inhaler antagonists a note from your doctor and long standing prescription proof would clear your name, but you would however prefer not to be in this situation. i would recomend that if you are serious at competing upto levels where testing will take place that you are constantly aware of the WADA rules and banned substances list available here: www.wada-ama.org/en/t1.aspas we all know many over the counter remedies can be illegal and as an athelete or coach these should be avoided at whatever level and whatever time if you want to progress in the future afterall you would have to shake the flu without certain branded remedies if you were steve backley so get used to it now. i would always use the wada list and website as the key reference then uka AFTER that. the strict liability rule means thats moorecroft and co will leave you swinging in the breeze with no leg to stand on if it all go's pete tong even if it wasnt intentional and it will be dick pound at WADA who you will need to ultimately answer to. start as you mean to go on and be aware ! and be pro-active sadly as the inhaler comment shows you will have to do things yourself UKA may be too slow or just not bother.
