I train many javelin throwers who have all the tools to really throw far, but can't wait for the stretch reflex energy, to hit the shoulder. They open up early and try to force it to fly. over and over and over. You tell them over and over and they sort of get it. They are to fast and forceful as to starting easy, smooth and in control. STAY IN CONTROL and build slowly, If you can't throw from 3 step good , how can you move on to 5 step, 7 step and full run. The hardest part for me to learn was, to be patient, and wait for whip to hit the shoulder and the rest was a reaction to that energy, automatic --no brain --thought out process. Keep it simple stupid, aggresive yet smooth run with rythem and pow!!!----Block left, attack left, relax right and follow the chest into throw, finish high/tall. This is where I found third gear. SCRAMJET energy. It's like flexing a bow full stretch and letting go, waiting for all that energy to transfer from the block and lift , to the follow through . a pendulum of power over the CG. A catapole of energy through the point of the javelin. What fun it was to get in that zone.
A javelin thrower I help called me and said he was brain dead in javelin again. 65 meters down to 48. He also said he was getting a d grade in religion at his school. All other courses were a's and he did not get religion at all. I said lets compare religion to javelin throwing as i don't get religion/politics yet and want to believe I have a future somewhere. I think religions are based on faith. A sense of purpose. A higher place with god. To throw any object to your maximum potential, you must have faith, to just let go, and let the energy happen automatic. Drills and hard practice at this in 40-70% effert in perfect form is how you get to the javelin gods
