1 What is the necessary level of training required to be an accepted line-call or field judge for javelin?
2 What rights does the competitor have to query the competence of field judges at a schools competition?
3 Is this different for club and national competitions in the UK?
4 Is there a minimum age for a field official?

I dont know about minimum age, but is there a maximum one? i was throwin discus at one inter club comp and the man had to sit down cuz he couldnt stand up! He was the circle judge and he couldnt see! He was telling me to make sure my toes didnt catch the edge when i was doing a STANDING throw from the middle of the circle!(and im a discus thrower so i sort of know wat im doing!)
There def isnt a minimum qualification level at inter clubs things because i was officiating last week and ive never been near a course in my life! But i have a better idea of the rules than some of the rubbosh out there!

Well, here in lies a problem. Schools rely heavily on teachers. In come cases the teachers haven't been through an officials course and might be unaware of most of the rules. You have every right to query a measurement / judgement. It should be done there and then. You may also ask for the Field Referee. However, the teachers might glare at you and refuse. If you can get a hold of the UKAtheltics rules - read and understand them, then take them along to any competition with you. The rights of a competitor are the same regardless if it is a club or national competition. Some competitions might be held under IAAF rules which are slightly different to UKA rules. As far as I'm aware, there is no minimum age.

I did a school comp this year and they told people to walk out the front to collect the javelin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I continued to walk out the side. Now that shows that they didn't know what they where doing!

a couple of years ago you always were allowed to go out and walk and collect your javelin or in some cases run out! in my mind it still should be allowed, athletes always know what to do when people are throwing and often at comps were they'd be quite a few athletes throwing you'd actually walk down the sector line and get your javelin whilst others were still throwing........it's only because many officials haven't a clue and have been involved in accidents in recent years that it's been stopped.......
.......i always enjoyed going out and collecting my javelin and seeing how far i'd thrown............. ;D do others miss this?
