Just to let you know that the new UKA Level 1 officials award is now coming online.
The award is in 2 parts:-
First is a 3/4hr course which covers all the basic aspects of officiating track and field. How to measure, how to time, basic risk assessment and some basic rules. For anyone with some knowledge of the sport and a dash of common sense it is an easy course.
Secondly you need to do 2 practical experiences under the guidance of an experience official. The aim being putting thing into practise from the course and further improving you knowledge / skills.
Once that is done you send your log book of to UKA and in return get your officials level 1 licence!
The course usually costs around £10 but some are being organised around the country free of charge through the Young Athletes League (for example I know two are planned for Manchester).
