My son Ryan has had an elbow injury since last June which pretty much ruined last season , He is now seeing a physio through the NHS (They have been very good!) and they have stated that he has liquid around the joint and will be having an MRI Scan next week, Just wondered if any one here has had anything similiar and what the scan may show?, We are a bit worried not knowing how serious this could prove to be any info would be great. Cheers Jon

sorry to hear that jon, i have always had elbow trouble, at times bad enough to stop me throwing for a while, but usually it's fine after a few hours, mine is normally brought on from overuse.
anyway, the main culprit for my trouble was bad throwing technique in the way i'd deliver the javelin - i've always carried the javelin quite low and this causes me to tuck the elbow in near my side during delivery, which is bad 1. because it shortens the pull and applies force on the javelin not ideally and 2. puts a lot of pressure on the elbow itself, if all goes well i get out of it as i finish quite high.
one thing that helped me though was to turn the hand inward, so the elbow pronates - this turns the up and in and is a sure fire way to get a good delivery with much emphasis being placed on the chest and shoulder, which is ideal.
a good way to describe it is to lift the armpit, so the arm pit faces almost upward.
have a look on you tube at that zelezny training video and watch his right hand and elbow turning inward as he primes the ball throws.
however! if it's bad all the time, then listen to what the guys at the NHS have to say and i guess it'll be a case of lots of rest and leave throwing alone till it calms down, then you can think about ways of alleviating it, with correct throwing technique.
so essentially it's a case of find the cause.
