Well I seem to have given myself a freak injury - Sunday morning I was working on a couple of technical issues at a low level of effort in an attempt to get the right hip firing at the right time.
After a few throws I let one go and managed to snap my humerus cleanly all the way through at about the middle of my bicep area - Now I am waiting to go into hospital again tomorrow to have a metal plate put in (seems like the first step to being the bionic man is underway)
Anyone got any ideas how I could have done this and any tips for early rehab post-op ?
Cheers

I am by no means any form of expert. The thought that struck me was that the bone may have been weak in that area for some reason or another. Might be worth asking the hospital / doctors the question.

I'm sure Colin Mackenzie ended his career with an injury like that or was that his forearm he broke while throwing in a comp in germany... hm i will try my best to dig out some articles on it
How on earth you managed that one though is beyond me unless like patience said you have a weak section of bone

Actually a friend of mine over here in Finland has done something very similar at the beginning of this season. He had already been suffering for a long time with his elbow already prior to that- so maybe a weaknes was to blame although he is a very strong guy, but that doesn't say anything about how much stress you joints and bones can put up with. As far as i know he is back in light training already so there is hope... Best of luck in your recovery

Well just back from hospital having had my metal plate put in, been told by my surgeon that a min of 3/4 months before i can throw again.
As for how I did it still remains a mystery, i've never really had any arm problems in the past, also it's the first bone i have ever broken in 34 years. I asked around at the hospital and nobody has come up with a decent reason as to why yet, the most likely I have heard is that i managed to get my bicep to cramp badly mid-throw and this combined with the direction of the throw created a shearing effect on my arm.
The most annoying thing though is that it was a crap throw as well
EDIT - forgot to say cheers for the well wishes

good luck man, my initial thoughts were " bleeding heck!" [or of similar] when reading and i'm sure everyone else's were of similar lines, i mean it sounds like a freak thing to me. maybe your arm was too fast for your bone and broke under immense pressure!!!! WOW!!!! then again maybe it was a freak thing or a weakness! ;D well i know what story i'd be telling down the pub! best wishes

might well use your reasoning there slinger make myself look better, or maybe go for a sympathy angle for free drinks and ladies looking after me I had the dressing taken off yesterday for a wound check and by god theres a few staples in there (about 20 on a rough count) So now i got no plaster on just a dressing and well i tried to take a pic and attach it of where I am at right now to give an idea ho big the incision was as it was the length of the dressing

Very sorry indeed to hear about your injury.
Good luck with your rehab.
If it's any consolation I have had some serious injuries in the past including broken right leg and partitial tear of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament in my right knee, the latter being when I was the same age you are now - took nine months to heal.
Still, even if the doctors right, you should be able to get some competition next season.
All the best.

Cheers man, did you find you took any longer to heal than you expected due to like me being the wrong side of 30 ? Here's my latest snap a couple of days before my staples are removed Anyone got any early days kinda rehab ideas at all, as at the moment i am just working on my ROM and making sure it stays as full as possible cheers

To be honnest i would suggest you keep working on the ROM and wait to hear what the physio says regarding anything else. you want that to heal 100% before you start trying to load up the arm.
