Hi everyone,
My name is Ivan Peacock and I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself to, what seems to be, a really good forum.
I coach at Reading AC. I got involved as a parent helper in 2006, when my son joined the U13 squad. This quickly re-ignited my passion for athletics, so I got more involved and did my Level1 in April 07 and my Level2 (throws) earlier this month.
I now coach the U13 Boys squad and manage our U13 boys teams for the local Alder Valley league and NYAL.
However, my real passion is for the javelin and I now want to develop as a javelin coach and create my own squad at Reading. The club are very keen for me to do this too, as we don't have any other regular javelin coaches at the club.
I have a question for you all; do you know any good javelin coaches in the Berks area, who may be willing to take me on as a mentee? I'm conscious that as I'm a) relatively new to coaching and b) not an ex-thrower (is that a problem? I don't know) I want to develop my technical knowledge of the event and of coaching the event before letting myself loose on too many athletes.
Anyway, looking forward to learning lots on this forum and to making contact with some local javelin coaches.
Ivan Peacock
PS - Why does it say 'Sola' beneath my userid? PPS - What does 'Karma: 0' mean?

hi ivan and a warm welcome from me! ;D to answer a couple of your questions errrr the name "sola" under your name is a kind of ranking thing which will change the more you post, it will change to various javelin throwers names all of which i'm sure you'll be familiar with, the first ranking is "sola" and he was a guy who threw at the either the olympic or commonwealth games and was from some tiny island somewhere, anyway no need to worry about it, as it's a meaningless thing really only a bit of fun to add interest. The karma thing again is just a bit of fun and you have the ability to either give or take away people's karma by pressing either the smite or exalt, so if someone says something you don't like then you have the choice to smite them OR if they post a good post you have the choice to exalt them! you don't have to of course it's only a bit of fun as i said! anyway have fun on the site and i'll no doubt speak to you at some point cheerio for now!

Hi slinger, hi robyn,
Thanks for the warm welcome and explanations.
I've now worked out how to use the PM system and have sent a message to one of the WSEH coaches, so hopefully I'll be developing my network of contacts in the local area in the near future.
Thanks again and Merry Christmas.
Ivan

Hi Ivan,
Have emailed you. Everyone in the javelin community is usually helpful, so good luck.
TVAC is exclusive to WSEH on Tue and Thu between 6.00pm and 8.30. Mondays and Wednesdays are a free for all. I'm sure that between Caroline and me you'll get some ideas, and maybe we can get some ideas from you.
You have my contact details and I look forward to hooking up in the New Year.
All the best.
Jeremy
