Thanks slinger, at least there is some faith in the girls!!
Actually I feel quite insulted with Nije's comment that the rest of the girls 'have settled around 50-52m.' what a load of crap. No way have I setled with that distance as I am always looking at improving and throwing distances I know I am capable of. I wouldn't train as hard as I do if I was settling for that distance. I struggled last year with a shoulder injury so pleased to get 52.5m out and see 54 as a realistic target to aim for this year. I am sure Hayley, Laura and Rosie are the same too. I know I will be giving it a good go anyway....

Nice one, Katy. You weren't the only one who was insulted by that comment which was why I responded. I think that it's time that it was recognised that the top girls work every bit as hard as the men do. As coaches we should be encouraging them, rather than denegrating what they have achieved so far.

As a 'watcher' and not a'twitcher' I have to say that Slinger, Katy and Caroline have got it just about right. Slinger is, and indeed always was, an astute observer of the event. What a shame that back trouble has halted his progress. I see a lot of parallels with Roald. I don't know if Slinger has an artistic streak though !!
I have watched Katy's progress albeit hampered by periods of injury with increasing certainty that the 'hard slog' will pay off. She keeps coming back for more. I know someone else like that.
Nige we have been through all this stuff before with David and others. Let's get one thing sorted, instead of discouraging comments go for encouraging words. Nothing is more certain than encouragement and positivity is more likely to have it's rewards than the alternative.
You must have gone through it all in your career....which attitude was best for you?

Same old same old from the same old people. Er Phil - I didn't have to rely on anyone opinion to influence how I did. If merely pointing out the FACT that the women are not better thtan the men bar one at present is enough to put you off your training then you really shoud take a good look at yourself. This is my opinion and by stating the facts obviously is something that some cannot handle. I woud have thought Katy and co oud have been more insulted by slinger's assertion that they are not pulling their fingers out enough!
BTW settling at 50-52 meant that the 2nd place to goldie in the rankings for the past 5 years or so have been around these distances. But you have a good go and I genuinely hope you manage to throw over 54m - although my money is on Freya will be UK number 2 next year if she is fit!
