i have had this shoulder problem for a while now. it keeps coming and going but recently started to kill. when i lift my arm sideways or move it backward it hurts like hell but when i throw i cant feel any pain. its just after a throw that it hurts. I'm icing it every day and taking ibuprofens and that helps but when i stop doing it the pain comes back... i am still contemplating on seeing a physiotherapist. would it be OK for me to compete this Thursday at sandy and Sunday in Birmingham? thanks

See a physio immediately! If it hurts there is obviously something wrong so best be safe than sorry. Shoulder injuries are career killers unless diagnosed early.

As above see a good physio immediately.
Dont compete at all - pain = something is wrong with the joint

I seem to recall last year that Brad had a bad elbow and thrwe at the AAA's and didn;t relly do hinmself justice and hurt his elbow more. I don't now if any lasting damage came of it but when things hurt, especially when young sort it out otherwise acute pain becomes a chronic condition for the rest of your days!
But if you really want another shot a Matti if that's your plan you are taking quite a risk. Then again if it doesn't really bother you that much have a go.
One thing about last year - because he hadn't thrown too well at English schools and others were throwing about 51-53 I think a few thought they had a chance and he ended up having a very good day and ended up winning by 11m while a few were nursing injuries after.
If Matti had an injury of some kind -I'd pull him out straight away but fortunately he has been injury free so far - the kiss of death there!
See a physio and see what the prob is rather than second guessing as it may have reprocussions later in life at worst and at best - just a bit of inflamtion or a trapped nerve which can be crunched back into place!

brad had an injury yes but wanted to compete. he threw nearly as far as his pb so i wouldn't say he did himself no jusitce he was just unfortunate that so many others stepped up a gear. there have been no long lasting problems with brad because after that he went on to rest up and then throw just short of his pb in the last match of the year (about a month later) with no pain at all. this year he has put on nearly 17m with the 700g with no pain issues at all.
georgie bean will be competing after i have given him a long lay off since the schools, from throwing.. he came through a throwing session on tuesday after starting out with the 400g upto 52m, the 500g upto 54m, the 600g upto 54m and then the 700g (6 throws at about 65% power) in excess of 55m.. just to build his confidence.
recovery has been good and he is now incredibly confident as the pain was very minimal and the technical changes we have made seem to be holding firm!

Sorry Sam - didn't mean to come over as a criticism of anyone but remember the conversation after when he said his elbow hurt. I was emphasising the point that he chould look after his injury. PEte has thrown well this year so I am not sure how hurt it could be unless it has just flared up since the weekend. Either way see a physio!

i'm not saying he shouldn't look after it.. with georgies we have done an extensive re-hab and he has had medical advice on it too.
shoulders are far more important parts of the body to get fixed because when they really go there is not much chance of recovery... just ask fatima!

hi guys, back from physio now. good news! i have tendonitus, injured the anterior deltoid and supraspinatus muscle. i dont feel any pain in those specified muscles though which is weird but he says that is where the pain developes from... he gave me loads of stretches to do, the majority to increase my flexibility in my shoulders and also in my hips/quads. i have to do them every two hours. also i have to use voltranol for the shoulder. after these stretches he plans to give me exercises to increase muscles to hold everything in place. luckily nothing serious so i can still throw this weekend, however saturday he plans to strap my shoulder in for sunday. funny thing he also said is that im going to get a hunchback unless i improve my posture...
