with the last 3 fest's being relatively south I feel it is time to try and take the event further noth to accomodate more of our northern friends.
Things to consider are ease of transporting to the location, facilites eg bar, indoor area and at least 2 runways
Costs need to be accounted for. Last Jav Fest was going to be at Birmingham at a cost of £400.. so think about that when making suggestions
there will be other topics for the other main aspects of the event so please keep this one to the venue selection

Linking in with a track that is next to an EIS/Indoor facility would be ideal - B'Ham, Manchester, Sheffield, St Marys, Uxbridge, Bath, UWIC. To get the most benefit I would imagine you would need UKA on side to assist in getting use of the facilities (for free perhaps).
Other good tracks include Bedford - everyones favourite.
I could get you free use of RAF Cosford track, however, it only has one end to throw from, but I could probably get you free use of its indoor facilities (2 massive gymnasiums, big weights/lifting area/fitness suite, indoor 3 lane 70m straight and various indoor training eqpt, rehab centre). There is a bar at the track in the pavilion that has a video/IT suite that could be ideal for throws feedback. If we are very lucky we could also get some free accommodation (although a tad limited). If this option is appealing then let me know reasonably soonest as I depart to far sunnier climes with effect 5 Sep 06 (Iraq) and won't return until 5 Jan 07 and hence will be largely incommunicado!

quite decent tbh, can be a bit strange if there is a massive headwind but thats rare and just my opinion cuz i hate throwing into one.

well the venue has two run ups as far as i am aware so we can always use the one we want to.
venue selection is always dependant on when we actually want to hold the next festival...
there is a seperate topic for that

Well from an up North angle both Sheffield and Manchester have their good and bad points.
Manchester have a better outdoor area for throws and have a lot of the Javelin used at the commenwealths etc stored there so they have a nice little range (speaking as a lady thrower). However I dont rate the indoor throws area very much. On a domestic front Manchester has the superior hotels and social aspects. Cost wise - Manchester council are very supportive of events and initatives. They havent been adverse to give facilities at very low costs if it makes the council look good. I'd definatly make enquires with them.
Sheffield has the big negative of the EIS which has the superior indoor throwing area being seperate to the outdoor tracks which may make the day quite hard to organise if you need both areas. However they have good facilities and have a nice range of javelins etc. Although cant comment on the social side etc.
Leeds is also a possiblity but you are limited regarding an indoor area as the one at South Leeds is ok but cant compare to the EIS's. Leeds is also good accomodation and social aspects.
Although they all have good transport links so I guess the end decsion is guided by exactly what facilities you want.
My advise is if you want to book up North at Sheffield / Manchester is speak to UKA and the England Athletics Regional Managers in those areas. They will make sure you get put in touch with the right people so to speak.

. However I dont rate the indoor throws area very much. . the comp wouldnt be indoors tho, it has more than enough room to allow many throwers to warm up and has physio rooms ( if your fortunate enough to have one) which am sure many will

I have consulted with many and the concensus is to take Jav fest 4 to Bedford. It is, afterall, Javelin Mecca in the UK
Over the next few weeks i will make enquiries as to the availability of the venue for the first two weeks in april 2007

Manchester sports city and birmingham would be great venues yes..however.. manchester never sees any good performances birmingham tried to charge me £400 this year plus a mountain of insurance paperwork to fill out both of them would be way over the top in terms of the kind of event we are hosting.
Bedford is great because it has a bar, a stand, two run ways, and an indoor area along side the track PLUS it is the best place in the UK to throw spears.
