i was watching slow mo clips of jav throwers and noticed that in alot of them the throwing arm started to bend just before the front foot planted. Is this correct for the arm to bend just slightly before the front foot makes contact with the ground Could u guys fill me in?

yeah........it does happen this is called "shortening" it is a technical deficiency........a couple of things may have occurred 1. the athlete maybe slow to work his/her legs, particularly the right hip strike, causing the left to come down late - hence an early delivery 2. the athlete may just be too keen with the top half, in an attempt to throw it harder, the athlete uses the arm too early - very common in novice young boys! but probably if you are looking at decent throwers [60 - 65m range] then most probably it's the first fault.
ideally the athlete wants to keep the throwing arm and hand away from the body the furthest it can be, as this creates the longest pull on the javelin thus giving maximum time and range to apply force - this is why you take the javelin back on a withdrawl, if it didn't matter then you throw a javelin from a carry position!
a couple of the big guys do have bent throwing arms - makarov springs to mind, but it's only bent it's not actually pre-emptying the throw by coming early......many young athletes think about keeping the arm back until the left [the plant] touches ground at delivery, but this isn't natural as you are doing something which is negative - holding something back when crucially you want it to go forwards, what they must do is work the legs earlier - early right foot/leg/hip strike before left makes contact with a solid left contact and bracing block.

Nearly all of the top world class throwers move the arm before the plant foot hits to make clearance for the chest to come through to the front. I woiuldnt worry too much about it as long as you wrap before the precipitation of the right side movements. Think of pushing the left errrrr I will say boob (for politeness sake) up to the left arm as the plant hits/

like brian said, don't worry about it and certainly don't be conscious of it...........work on the run up with doing the right things with your feet and it'll come natural to you...........i threw 68m when i was your age [17 yrs old, first yr u/20?] and all i thought was run up as fast as i could WITH rhythm and use my legs to belt the hell out of it, i did nothing with my arms, all i remember feeling on my first 68m throw was a huge stretch through my chest as my legs worked early and the jav just fired out like a missile and felt nothing no tension from my arm just almost like a whip.....
