Does he spikka de English? Or will there be an Interpreter appointed as well?
Congratulations to him on his appointment. Commiserations Tom, I hope he turns out to be exactly what is hoped for; what is needed and can bring British success ( including for Matti (GB hopefully) ! ) back to the event.

I have to say I'm a tad dissapointed that someone closer to home didn't got the job, but I have a sneaks that it was always going to go to a foreign coach.
I wish the chap all the best though and even though IMO there isn't much new in Javelin throwing hopefully he can bring something new to our event.

What I would hope he will bring to the event is a more coherent organisation. We have had National Squads, Regional Squads, then National Squads for coaches, then no squads at all. Personally I think the squad structure is a good one, as it gives the younger athletes something to aim for.

I think this is a predicatable appointment i.e. foreign. However let us see what he can do. Not many countries can boast the quality of throwers britain has boasted in the last 20 years so the coaches here must have done something right. As he comes from the home of javelin throwing I think this is possibly the best appointment so far. Netherlands and canada are hardly the homes of track and field athletics and many of the recent appointments have not inspired much confidence outside the uka offices. I feel the javelin throwers will benefit from this - I hope the rest of us can have the same confidence in our event coaches.
Out of interest - who was/were the uk coaches who people think should have been selected. I would imagine those who coached Backley Hill Sanderson and Whitbread would have had a good shout. We haven't won medals in pole vault, long jump, long distance, high jump etc but GB coaches were given uka jobs - what have I missed???

Like I said previous - Trower. He knows and understands the event as well as anyone [IMO] and delivers it in a way that is understood - again IMO.
...but there are loads that could do the job - we all know the names, as they have been mentioned countless times.
Ideally, I would like to of seen a younger up and coming coach in the event take the role and begin a new era in the event.

Ok lets try to move away from what might have happened and focus on the future. Any views on how to move things forward Slinger, sportbilly et al your views will be appreciated.
Thanks

I think you will find it hard to get everyone to agree with anything that is put forward, as....well, that's life and not everyone will see eye to eye with everyone.
Anyway, personally I really like the idea of group W/W trips, especially if some funding can be sought as they are not cheap and a couple of weeks away with like minded folks is always a good learning time and some real quality work can be achieved. The same with more regular meet ups for guys and gals as something I found with training alone is that it's not great and even if it's just for a pair of watchful eyes it's well worth it.

I think a set up with National squads (for the ATHLETES and their coaches) is the way forward. When I came through the age groups I was always thinking it would be just great to go to one of these.
In line with this, links/introductions or data bases of where to go to get
equipment at a good price medical advice - experts.... who is the best person to get your elbow looked at etc Physio (can be linked to the above)
In these national squads people can get an opportunity to try different javs/equipement, training aids.
When people talk about getting the basics right for throwing, I think this will be difficult as so many styles and physical attributes effect the throw. But one think I wish I had from the beginning, is technique in the gym, and I think this should be one thing looked at within the squads as this could be easier to identify a good model of how to do things.
These might be suited for all but could be looked at...
