good to see paul.. still too low at the back though . you need to stand up into the throw instead of hitting it through very low!!!

I am guessing that when me and Sam spoke before about Paul we were saying that he carries the jav very low on the carry and the withdrawl, hence why he hits the floor a lot with it. Also Paul has a problem of collapsing a lot on the delivery or strike position and we have been working on trying to get him to extend his right leg rather than just collapse it which is what me and sam were talking about at the english schools. Don'y you remember saying the same in Portugal when we were throwing with u?

Paul,
Look at Andreas' 90.57 throw from yesterday. If everything is low you get no kind of launch pad. The Thork stayed tall and long and rangy. Compare that throw with his others in the Final and you will understand. It really is that simple.

Was it that simple for Dave PJ?

That is a moot point! We do make the event more difficult by not concentrating on getting into the correct positions.
If you have ever coached cricket via the MCC Coaching Manual it is very instructive about the correct positions for Bowling and for Batting. Get those right and go for link phases. It does work. There are always exceptions like Muttiah Muralitharan, Malinga the Slinger and Kevin Pieterson.
If you want to use Dave as an example. When he was doing it wrong he set the NYorks. Schools record of 75.21, the ESAA Championship record and won the World Juniors, so a little bit of it must have been right. Unfortunately the same year ( 1998 ) there were some careless injuries, not all Dave's fault. Some were mine, some were the responsibility of other Coaches! I could write a book! When knees start to let you down it is the most unforgiving event! So it is a matter of pre-meditated wisdom to insist on correct positioning in every phase to safeguard legs, shoulders, elbows etc. The forces that go through those areas can be up to 10-11 x bodyweight.
Don't you think Andreas' winning throw was one of the most effortless you have ever seen? Dave can and has thrown like that but rarely when fully fit and never in Competition.

I kn ow exactly where you are coming from Phil.My comment was more in jest than anything else. What I mean is that sometimes the easiest things can be the hardest to achieve.

Paul did 60.37m which is a 2m pb and first time over 60m so that barrier has been broken as well. That was his 1st throw and then he started to try to hard but had a good series all 55m and 57m. Still more to come and 3 comps left with one been at his home track in york so could go further yet

At last another North Yorkshire Spear man making good. Didn't ( or indeed does he still)? Paul go to Lady Lumley's?
I used to teach there.
We have had 5 ESAA Championships since 1994 in Javelin and one Bronze. Graham Lay, who you will remember, Willo, Gold and Bronze and David, 4 Golds.
If you need any help this winter Paul give me a shout.

One other thing Paul. Barriers are semantics. Forget 60m ....70m ...80m....200ft, 250ft. etc
They become barriers in the mind. Technical progress is pre-eminent. Important are core stability, strength, power, conditioning, psyche and enjoyment.
Look at the fun Tom Daley was having in Beijing. At 14 years old he seems to have sussed it all. Many older athletes can learn from his displays.
