Well from what I can see (I'm no expert) * Bent Knee (Land it Straight and ramp up over it) *Toe Plant on Left leg (try and plant foot flat or heel first) *Arm coming through with hip (Hold it back as long as possible) *Right leg should stay on floor until javelin has left hand for a bow in your back ) *Short base (Should be length of your height or round about that) You should be aiming to get as much stretch down your back, making a bow from your foot to your right hand. home.sprintmail.com/~jesusvirella/_uimages/zelezny98.48.JPG

Tezzykins is about right. First of all, you appear to be collapsing over the left side. When you have done your crossover or impulse stride with your right leg, you need to stretch the left leg out further in front not completely braced but with some give in the knee so that you can drive up and into the throw. This is the delivery stride and you can see yours is too short because your top half has come through too early. If you look at Tezzykins photo beside her reply, she has managed to delay her arm better - it is stretched back and will give a longer pull on the javelin. This is due to a longer delivery stride and she is trying to stay tall. As her hips snap forward, she is getting into a bow position with her body and she will be releasing the javelin at the highest point possible. What we can't see from the photo is how long your crossover was. A good "long" crossover (for you) will get the legs out in front of your body and the arm well back for a long pull on the spear. Finally I would suggest your arm is too low - the elbow should be a lot higher as it looks as though the throwing hand will come through at about ear level. It is the elbow that needs to come through at this height with the hand releasing the spear over your head at the highest point. This needs sorting asap as you could hurt your elbow when you put the power through. Do you need to work on your shoulder mobility? This may also be causing you to lean over to the left as you struggle to get the throwing arm through so I would suggest you tackle this area as a matter of urgency. I hope this has been of some use to you.

Find a specialist javelin coach, preferably one who is moving close to the area very soon !

home.sprintmail.com/~jesusvirella/_uimages/zelezny98.48.JPG OUt of interest who thinks this is a good model to work from. I know he is the world record holder but I can think of better technical models than this -but cannot think of anyone with a more explosive arm! It reminds me of that classic position of tessa throwing when she ahs a huge last stride, completely collapses her from leg, barely gets out thte sunken position and we all had it as a wall chart to show us how to do it!!!!! I still think backley is pretty much on the money www.brianmac.co.uk/javelin/photo.htm

I'd love to know if what I wrote made sense and if there has been an improvement in the lad's performance? Just an acknowledgment, please?

Guys, I think MJ might be having some motivational problems at the moment along with a minor personality clash with his coach.
I'm moving up to his neck of the woods soon where I think I a different style of coaching may bring him and his lady-friend back into the fold. (Ever seen the drill sergeant in Full Metal Jacket ? I make him look like Julian Cleary).

hii all its been a while the feed back am getting from you all is amazing
but Dave (Pembrokian) is right my coach at the moment does not have a clue she knows the basics i mean the stuff you teach kids of 6 really well but for some one like me and as Dave pointed out my lady friend who wants to get batter and go further in the sport she just cant help
and because of that and the fact she is brill at pointing out problems but has no idea how to correct them in any way is making me less and less motivated
dont get me wrong i love the sport its a passion of mine but when you have road blocks like that it slows you down you know
Dave please hurry your arse up and get here in the isle of man you really did make me realize how naff she is compared to you we need some one like you who can take us to the next level and give us a swift boot in the arse to get there
oh and by the way she thinks your going to take over the cage and she keep the run way.
