robyn it was dave's 6th round throw at the '84 LA olympic games and you can see him turn in disgust almost as soon as the spear left his hand as it sort of stalled in mid flight [as the old spec used to if you didn't catch it] and it still went 84, after asking him about it he told me he has never hit a javelin as hard as that particular throw and in my mind if he had of caught it he would have easily won the comp and been an olympic champion, as he only threw a meter further than that throw in the comp and 86 won it. people will say that it was the least winning distance that year for 20 years and with the east germans and russians boycotting a fair few good athletes weren't there - including uwe hohn ;D BUT you can only beat who is there on the day and dave will have a medal forever nice one dave......

I use to have that on my bebo! yeah amazing throw! it looked like it was 2m away from the track! is that why they changed the rough tailed javelin?
Yeah I did notice Dave turning away after the throw! I was chatting to my dad about it today actually. Yeah the winner I think threw 86m72 and Dave 85m70 or something like that! How come Honh wasnt there?

uwe hohn was from east germany [old GDR] and them among with many other countries [mostly eastern bloc] boycotted the '84 games, so uwe wasn't there, all over political reasons, just google it if you are really interested in it.
