thanks wez! ive been focusing on run ups at the moment im lacking power in the legs as im not raising my knees very high ! im also working on throwing forward as sometimes i fall off the jav to the left ! hope this makes sense i dont know the terminology ! ive been doing lots of drills in the javelin throwing session i have as well as throwing jav balls in loads of different ways ! good bye to 5 steps ! I know exactly what you mean Sadie, i myself almost always fall away to the left or or atleast over rotate the hips! its a waste of power because to be effective at transfering your runup speed into the jav you have to be able to get everything moving in the same direction eg forwards. Its also part of the reason why i've bust my elbow this year so if you can get out the habit now that would be brilliant. I can also relate to what you've said about lack of leg power, i think whats lacking is mostly spingyness as opposed to speed or strength. As Robyn says it can feel like your running as fast as you can but the legs are heavy and unresponsive and to anyone watching youre doing a bit of a Scooby Doo. What you really want is to be able to get a good speed up and finish the x steps with light feet more like bounding so you literally bounce into the throwing base and rebound out of it as you chase the throw after release. Just look at any of the great rangey throwers for a good example of that like; Zelezny, Pitämäki, Thorkildsen, Valsilevskys. Heres a couple who prove you don't need to be lightly built to be light on your feet Hattestad as shown in this clip www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yszP4c5ECMor a personal favourite of mine, Kimmo Kinnunen also one of the worlds greatest shouters, which i'm sure you can relate to www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AlPWFXroCEHow can you improve your spring? well get used to being able to sprint faster than you have to on your runup and bound better than you need to. So for training that means lots of one and two legged bounding, sprints, x step drills with fast feet and perhaps x steps with the jav over small hurdles or up the stadium steps. Theres one more little trick and thats to make sure your legs are fresh before you throw, so time your bounding or sprinting sessions to give you enough time to recover before your throwing sessions. Once you 'can' run with the jav alot faster than you do in actual throwing, the whole thing will suddenly feel more comfortable and everything will fall into place.

Kimmo Kinnunen his croos over are really boundy !!! good example ! thanks again wez ive been doing a bit of bounding, 3 small boxes in a row and tow large ones jumping on and off them two feet together and jumping from one to the other on one foot!! and then going into side bounds then run back round 3 mins each circuits ! its definatly improved my 3 bunny hops in quad test ! i will take in the information you have told me wez your great help thank you ! all i can say is ive definatly improved from last year !!

Yeah you will notice hige improvements! I do alot of this stuff and its deffo helped me! not just in jumps but in everything! when I am doing power lifts such as deadlift and squat I am lifting over 15kg-20kg more than last year so it has helped on that too! My knees still need to be higher on sprints though because I am ok when its short stuff but anything from 80m upwards my knees tend to drop!
Unlike you where you say you drop to the left I tend to be too forwards and already in the position before the heel has struckk properly, however, there is a little more seperation now! all I think about on the run way is the chin knee toe, make a bow, let it go saying and I think and get into an ok position! still needs improvement but thats what the winter training period is there for! are you throwing in Birmingham Sadie? I am not going as its right in the middle of my training and its far too soon. I would have done some very early comps in Wales were doing the commonwealth youth games but nope, I believe Wales are not sending a team so!

Hi sadie You look a different thrower from your earlier clip Your left side is much improved not falling away as before Howeve I feel you need to drive your cross-overs , they look a little slow You need to work on your right leg to bring it higher and push it through a bit deeper This change would make your cross overs more dynamic It is still early in the season so keep on working on your drills

That Video was the 1st Wednesday we missed, so quite a while ago now, she has been working hard on her speed and drive, as well as raising the right leg. She is getting a lot quicker, and the link between her usual 5 steps and the run up is getting much better! To be honest, its the springyness and lightness on her feet we are working on too, lots of Plyo work, which Sadie will tell you, is her weakness. All good stuff though

might be my weakness but plyo is good fun because its challenging !! Yeah plyometrics are realy good! thats why I put it as my fav session on the interview, although when I am doing it I regret I say it because its so tough yet fun! In some plyometric exercises they are really challanging like you said and I fould alot of the stuff I do I have to get my head right because once you start an exercise you have to keep on going! Good fun though! I love the ones I do in the long jump pit the most.
