with regards to JB's post in the coaches corner if one more sprinter walks accross my run up practice i'll go mad ! by the way shouldnt it be field and track and not track and field afterall we are a d**n site bigger and have weapons ! ;D tonight at training i had to chase, yes chase 2 stupid fools off the track as they decided it would be fun to try and ride across the football pitch when ever i started my run up... i ended up just throwing my nerf vortex ball at them, they got the hint when i hit one of their bikes the 'oh crap hes aiming for us' hint ::)lol after hitting his bike i did say to him what if that was a javelin? he just laughed and started shouting abuse. Some people have no sense and personally i do not see how they make it this far into a so called life??? they came down and disturbed my groups session last week by riding round on the track on their bikes as we were trying to do a 150m build up sprint session and it had to resort to a threat of getting the them first of all removed from the track by any means neccesary followed by a beating if they were still hanging around at 8pm (very bad but wasnt by me im not that mean) tonight one of my athletes hit one of them so lets see what happens on thursday. Just waiting for the parents to come down and give me an ear full, but as far as im concernd my group and club pay for the privlage to use the track without anyone else being on thereto interupt, if people cant get that into their heads after warnings then it is their own fault if they get hurt, but then it would come back ten fold negetivly on the club. sorry for the moan but it has really annoyed me tonight, spending about 20minutes trying to get a couple of idiots off the track. wasting my time and my athletes time. was really in the mood to do some throwing tonight as the weather was good warmish and dry, spoilt it for all as my 2 throwers got cold, fed up and kept asking if they could go beat them up lol Does this sort of Dumbass stupidity happen often? in the summer i usually have a football team come down early and start kicking a ball about on the football pitch while im still throwing then they say oh he cant throw that far....which really makes you aim for them took almost all of last season for them to realise javelins are very pointy lethal impliments...then again FOOTBALLERS, need i say more?

the main problem i seem to have is when i am training at the smaller track that we have got (6 lane track). the long distace coach gets his athletes to do lots of 200m runs now you would think that they would start at the 200m start point wouldn't you?? BUT NO they start at the 250m point and run round to the 50m point on the home straight and then proceed to walk accross the middle of the infield WHILE I AM THROWING!!! the distance from the scratch line to the halfway line (there is a football club that shares the stadium, and the halfway line is where they walk accross) is 55.67m (i have measured it) My Pb is 52.80m so you can see how close things get. the coach for the runners said that i should just cone off the area that i feel is safe enough for them to walk around!!! i argued that the whole field will be coned off in that case. the thing is if it gets wet the javelin can slide (as i found out when i was throwing the 700g javelin, it landed flat at about 50m and slid out to about 75m) if you come down there you will often hear me shouting at them to get the out of the bloody way. my usual argument is that:- "I don't throw the javelin from off the track so you DON'T RUN ON MY FIELD".....arrrrggghhh I do think that a big issue with clubs is that the first thing kids get offered is a running coach because everyone can run ( i tend to wobble but that's a different matter). i laugh at JB's comment about it being re-named field and track as YES we are the ones that have the weapons!!!!

I too have experienced similar problems, mostly with track athletes cutting accross the middle of the field which they claim is "safe". Apart from contantly telling them, the only thing that really stops them is roping off the whole field area. It is something that has been brought up at the club's AGM and may be worth your while doing the same.

Unfortunatly its a problem you'll see around the country. Tracks are a great way of attracting unwanted youth. Big space and easy to break in where there is nowhere else to go or annoy. At the track where I used to work I spent a large chunk if my time throwing youths out, putting out bin fires, getting abuse and one time evening breaking a fight up (off the premise I dont mind but in reception isnt good!). The police werent interested and staff had to be increasingly careful as car etc got trashed in retaliation for being kicked out. We have ran taster sessions in-line with social services etc to try and help the situation and get the kids involved but its had little sucess when I'd left. It just meant they could throw the bricks at the cameras more accuratly! . As for footballers and rugby players dont get me started!

We dont have the problem of athletes cutting across the field, i'm not sure if it's becasue we have pointless signs and a thin piece of string around the field or the fact that we have javelins coming from one directions and hammers coming from the other and both meeting in the middle!

Thankfully we dont have the midfield problem at wakefield and relatively few yob problems apart from the occasional mutant acting up for some attention ! i would'nt recommend this tactic but what usually works for me is instant explosive aggression towards them, it does help if your a shed sized mutant like me though however this tactic , although it stops the intitial problem, is flawed as its hard to concentrate on right foot position when you cant stop thinking about whether you have a dustbin were your windscreen used to be My biggest bug bear is not footballers or rugby players, its not even the yobs ... its sprinters ! bl**dy sprinters ! they do three hundred meter runs in big groups over and over again ending at the finish line, they then all proceed to walk over the top infield tracked area (high jump bit etc etc) and accross the runway or behind my arm,,,, about 1ft behind... how long do they think a javelin is unbelievably they dont seem able to even see the 6'3'' mute with the SPEAR and angry red face and seem surprised when i get angry.... and some of the younger ones look scared and confused by some of my language ;D in recent weeks i have opted for a move it or lose it tactic where i run up anyway and there but for the grace of god go there fragile sprinty bodies ! maybe we should be nicer to them afterall they have to concentrate there minds on the complexity's of there sport.... go, run, stop go, run, stop go, run, stop go, run, stop go, run, stop ! wow even thinkning about it tires me out !! i think thats enough ranting for now.. its nice to vent

Sprinter have a tough life. All that running around and such. Just remember we can do a half decent relay leg but can they throw a half decent spear? Most couldnt and those that can should be converted lol! Perhaps you should challenge them to a spear throw? The more you convert the less of them running around you

we had our throwing section roped off but they only roped up to the half way line on the football pitch (which is only 47.50m, i throw 50m+ ) so that the runners could run across the half way line. i had to go show the stadium staff that it wasnt good enough so they put the rope round the whole of the pitch lol ;D the rope gets took down during the football season though, which is a pain.

i would have been shouting..."KEEP GOING KEEP GOING I COULD GET A WORLD RECORD HERE" seriously though it just shows that no matter how many officials qualifications you have the throwing sector is NEVER a safe place to stand!!!!

Problems all the time....... Every one seems to have a problem with some one running through the infield or over the run up.
We have the rope around the in field. But you still get the problems. I find it stems from the coachs who give me the major problem. Running accross the infield and runup. They don't teach the athlets correcly. And when I do sprint sessions, I always ask the sprint coachs which lane I can use for me and my group so as not to get in their way. But you always get those little s##ts getting the way.
Now the way I get through to them is this....... and I have the utmost respect it's all in the etiquet for the track. I respect those who respect me. And I wouldn't let any of my athlets do this. It's on my own back.
Me - 6'4inch tall (196cm) 18stone(118kg), and the biggest person on the track. Them - Little.
For the sprints.... I run at them... simple... just as you pass them shout ''track''. I always shout track before we start.
Throws..... I can hit a cone at about 55m and within 2m at 60m so I know where I can throw.......... so I shout at them and then throw the jav, as if at them at them...... some times they get right on my ____.
And it works... most of the time.
Always respect the big buggers with pointed sticks. ;D
